Richmond Weekend Getaway
Happy Saturday! Last weekend Dom and I decided to take a mini getaway and spend some time with family in Richmond, VA. I can’t believe it’s already been a week now, but I enjoyed our stay there so much. It’s always great to take some time away from your normal routines and reset. If you live in the DMV area and want to take a short distance trip somewhere, Richmond is only about a two hour trip from the area. Sharing some places you might want to check out while there!
Shop My Look
You may not know, but Richmond, VA is where I attended college at Virginia Commonwealth University so the city is not new for me. But this was the first time, in a long time, I was able to actually explore a little and have some fun there. It felt so good to do this too! Here’s a list of things we got into that you would enjoy!
Where we Ate
Yamato Steakhouse & Sushi Restaurant
The first spot we checked out was Yamato Steakhouse & Sushi Restaurant, it was recommended by my brother and it did not disappoint. Hibachi restaurants are a favorite of Dom’s and I so we were so down to go. The first dish served was the soup that all hibachis serve and even that was beyond delicious. For my entree, I ordered filet mignon, chicken and scallops. Everything came with fried rice and the assortment of veggies. When I tell y’all this was one of the best hibachis I ever ate at, I’m not lying. It was the teriyaki sauce for me! I’ve been to plenty of hibachis before, but this one was hands down one of the best!
As always I had lots of leftovers, but unfortunately I left my box in the hotel room. I was devastated! So this basically means that next time we are in Richmond, we are going straight to this restaurant to eat. I just have to remember to bring the leftovers home with me.
Baker’s Crust
We ate at Baker’s Crust, located in Carytown, with our family for brunch! I am such a brunch girl and love to get all dolled up to go to my brunches. This look is actually what I wore that day!
This spot fit my aesthetic of a good brunch place. I loved the atmosphere and the food was good too! I would suggest you make a reservation because we did have to wait a bit for a walk in. Also, if you are meeting up with friends or family, confirm which Baker’s Crust you plan to visit because there are two. One in Carytown and the other in Short Pump. My only gripe with this place is that we ordered a pitcher of mimosas, but it never arrived. Really wanted to try their blood orange mimosas, but there’s always next time!
What we Did
Bowling
I haven’t been bowling in years, but proud to say that your girl still has it! Won the first game against everyone! We chose to bowl at Uptown Alley, which was only about 4 minutes away from the hibachi spot we ate at. This bowling alley is huge! It has two floors. Never seen a bowling alley with multiple floors, pretty cool. The top floor is a bar area and it’s for 21 and older to bowl. The bottom floor has an arcade and bowling for all ages. We had so much fun here!
Visited Monroe Park
When I attended VCU we all knew not to go through Monroe Park at night because it was never an inviting place. It honestly used to look and feel scary walking through there. Fast forward to now and VCU has transformed the park and beautified it. When our hotel was not ready yet, we took a stroll through here and met up with my brother. Dom got the chance to watch some street chess games, he’s an avid lover of chess, and Barks loved the freedom to roam around there.
Next Visit Plans
For this photoshoot we took pictures on a cobblestone street right near the Canal Walk. While there, I noticed that they offered 40 minute long canal tour cruises. The boat was so cute too! I wanted so badly to get on the next scheduled cruises, but they were booked. We planned to get on the next one after the booked trip, but found out they only accept cash. On our next visit to Richmond though I’ll be ready!
I hope you enjoyed reading about my mini getaway trip to Richmond and you find my suggestions helpful if your planning to visit! Any short distance getaway trips this summer? Let me know in the comments!
