California Love

Summer is definitely the season for traveling, and it’s been one of the biggest goals I wanted to accomplish this year. I’m so ecstatic that flying across the country to California became a reality for me this past weekend. Seeing California has been such a big dream for me! The trip was for my fiancé’s best friend’s birthday. His girlfriend made some boss moves and planned a surprise weekend getaway to Los Angeles and invited all of his best friends along! (She’s the real MVP, right?!) Besides the rain on Saturday we had a pretty awesome trip!

No matter how short or long my trip was to Cali I knew what I wanted out of the trip, and that was to experience as much as I could. I wanted to be able to tell my experience but also give you (my readers tips on traveling to Cali). So here it goes!

My First Thoughts

My first thoughts of Cali was that it was nothing short of amazing. The pictures of the palm trees plastered all over social media do not do them justice, and the weather is just perfect! Now I know what people mean when they say it’s warm outside but no humidity.  My other thought was that traffic there really does have the city slow, haha.

The Food

I may have a small frame but I can definitely eat; I love food (if you follow me on Instagram you definitely already know this)!  Trying new places to eat in Los Angeles was something I was looking forward to. Our first spot to eat at upon arriving was Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles located at 1514 N Gower St Los Angeles, CA. I ordered the Obama Special that included a waffle and three fried chicken wings. The waffle was delicious and very tasty. I was also a fan of the chicken, I loved that it was piping hot even half way through the meal. They’ve been awarded an A+ in my book!

Our first night we had a taste for barbecue so we headed to Gus’s BBQ located at 808 Fair Oaks Ave, South Pasadena, CA 91030. I ordered the half rack of the St. Louis Spare Ribs with the mac n’ cheese and the braised southern greens. I really enjoyed the ribs and the collards, however the macaroni was too bland for me. I had a spoonful of the garlic mashed potatoes and if I happen to visit again, I will be ordering those instead. 

Saturday morning we headed to The Highland Cafe LA. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful Los Angeles weather, that is before it poured later on that day. I ordered the Chilaquiles Verde Burrito, and it was delicious, I just wish it didn’t fall apart on me :-(. I also loved my macchiato and bottle of apple juice, so tasty!

For lunch we did a quick stop at King Taco located at 1118 Cypress Ave. Los Angeles, Ca 90065. I opted for three carne asada tacos with fresh chopped cilantro, onions, jack cheese, and their famous salsa. I wasn’t too fond of the tacos but I’m not sure if it’s because I didn’t eat them right away because they ended being a little soggy. Oh well, there’s always next time!

Saturday dinner was at Sadie Kitchen and Lounge on 1638 N. Las Palmas Ave. Hollywood, CA 90028. At first, finding the entrance to this place was difficult since one of their entrances was closed and looked deserted. We thought they closed for business but luckily we turned the corner to find them still up and running, haha. This place proves that you should not judge a book by its cover because the interior of this place was just beautiful. It was very sophisticated and elegant, I truly fell in love! Now this was a pricey spot which I don’t mind as long as the food is great! Unfortunately in my opinion it was mediocre. I ordered the Crispy Wild Salmon, that wasn’t up to my cooked salmon standards. Not to mention their portion sizes looked like a kid’s meal.  I think next time I’ll try their steak dish that looked divine!

The Views + Must See Areas

Now let’s discuss the views because there were many! Our stay was at a house on top of a hill that overlooked the city. It’s one view that I have plenty of pictures of because everyday I just got lost in it. I hope to grow old looking at a view like this. #Goals!

 Whenever you make it to California a stroll down the walk of fame, shopping at Hollywood and highland, and seeing the Hollywood sign are all a must! 

So I’ve heard Venice Beach is pretty awesome that’s why we made it all the way out there to engulf ourselves in its awesomeness! Unfortunately we were rained on, so we weren’t able to experience the beach as we wanted to 😔. I still can’t believe it rained in Cali when it hardly ever does! Even all the locals were in complete shock!

Overall I enjoyed the Cali atmosphere and I hope to one day live there! I’m back home but my heart is still in California. I’m going, going, back back to Cali, Cali…….hopefully that is 😉.  (DJS & STYLE tip of the day: Travel, travel, travel, and travel.
